Pablo

Picasso

Spanish, 1881 - 1973

Pablo Ruiz Picasso the Spanish painter and sculptor and one of the most recognized figures in 20th century art, is best known for his dramatic personality and distinctive imagery. He is one the co-founders, along with Georges Braque, of Cubism. His style is unmistakable, though much imitated. It has been estimated that Picasso produced about 13,500 paintings or designs, 100,000 prints or engravings, 34,000 book illustrations and 300 sculptures or ceramics. One of his major oil paintings, Garçon à la pipe, sold for $104 million in May, 2004, setting a new auction price record at the time.
