Austrian, 1925 - 2005

Born in Vienna in 1925, Henry Wolf became an icon of graphic design and fashion photography. As art director for Esquire, Harper’s Bazaar, and Show Magazine, Wolf was renowned for his fashion photography and innovative photographs of famous subjects. Unseen since a September 2003 retrospective show at Sotheby’s prior to Wolf’s death in 2005, the featured paintings are the fruits of a thirty year creative passion that carried through to the end of his life; a fascinating collection of work that reflects the elegance and impeccable composition of his renowned fashion photography, combined with an intense mood, intriguing narratives and the classicism of original oil paintings.
