Francis
Bacon
Bacon launched his painting career in 1944 when Auschwitz and Hiroshima were the source to his painted furies. To capture the feverish, nightmare quality of the experiences Bacon depicted, he developed a surrealist dream style. Bacon’s lack of formal training was a handicap that he turned to an advantage. Uninhibited by drawing skills or rules of composition, he painted simply for effect. Towards the end of his career, Bacon was regarded as Britain’s finest figurative painter.
