Francesco Clemente
Born in Naples in 1952, Francesco Clemente started out his career as an architect. It was not long before he realized that fine art was his true calling and he began to exhibit his artwork in Rome in the early 1970’s. Soon after, he traveled to India for several years before settling in New York City in 1981. Along the way, Clemente had built up his reputation as an innovative and free-thinking artist, collaborating with local artists in India, as well as some of the most influential artists of the time, Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Clemente was also highly influenced by and collaborated with contemporary poets such as Gregory Bateson, William Blake and Allen Ginsberg. Together, Clemente’s intellectual, cultural and artistic inspirations and collaborations can be seen throughout his unique style of art. Throughout his lifetime, Clemente exhibited his work in famous art galleries around the world including London, Berlin, Paris, Tokyo, Rome, Dublin, New York and Chicago. Today, he splits his time between New York City, Madras and Rome, collecting inspiration for his art along the way.
