Bert Stern

Bert Stern was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1929. His first big break in photography was for a Smirnoff ad in 1953. From there, he went on to work with several different magazines whose prime focus were fashion and travel and created his own documentary on the Newport Jazz Festival. Shortly after this documentary, Stern took his first photograph for the cover of Vogue magazine in 1960. This advertisement would be the first of many in his relationship with Vogue and during this time Stern would take some of his most famous portraits.

Throughout the years he would photograph the many famous beauties of Hollywood and the modeling world including Twiggy, Sophia Loren, Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot, Elizabeth Taylor, and his most famous client, Marilyn Monroe where he captured 2500 photographs entitled “The Last Sitting,” six weeks before her death. After a few personal trials that drove him to Europe, Stern returned to New York where he still lives and works today.
